High level Ethiopian delegation visits FDDI, Noida
 

A six member high level delegation (Directors) from the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia visited the Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI), Noida on 13th June, 2014.

The delegation consisted of Mr. Zulfikar Abajihad (Director- Footwear Technology), Mr. Taye Tibebu (Director- Leather Technology), Mr. Tsegaab Bekele (Acting Director- Research & Testing), Ms. Birknesh Gonfa (Director- Marketing), Ms. Desta Gurmu (Director- Audit & Inspection) and Ms. Zerfie Mersha (Director- Environmental Technology).

FDDI has successfully carried out the 'Benchmarking Programme' in Ethiopia in seven footwear industries initially for one year which included companies like Kangaroo Shoe Company PLC, Ras Dashen Shoe Factory, Anbessa Shoe SC, Peacock Shoes, Ramsay Shoe Factory, OK Jamaica Shoe Factory etc. and has firmed-up its position at international platform of consultancy.


Presently, the three year 'Twining Programme' with Leather Industry Development Institute (LIDI) is being conducted by FDDI which will be completed by September 2014.


In concurrence, a group of students consisting of 16 candidates from LIDI, Ethiopia are pursuing their M.Sc. Programmes of two years duration and full time in nature in selected field from the month of November 2012 at FDDI, Noida who will be completing their M.Sc. Programmes by end of June 2014.


Sharing the details, Mr. Raajeev j Lakhara, Managing Director, FDDI said, “The Ethiopian delegation visited FDDI with an objective to further develop business ties & to imbibe the Institute's experience in other areas of industrial consultancy.”


The activities undertaken by FDDI were also briefed to the Ethiopian delegation through a presentation.


“FDDI will be extending full support to the Ethiopian leather industry for enhancing its competitiveness and to accelerate the growth so that it succeeds on a global scale,” stated Mr. Lakhara.


The delegation visited the International Testing Center (ITC) of FDDI which has full-fledged Chemical and Physical Laboratories which specializes in testing of leather, leather products, footwear, footwear components, textile products, plastics, etc. and is the only laboratory in India which has been certified by Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle GmbH (DAkkS) for ISO 17025 of Germany for chemical and physical testing.


The delegation was highly impressed with the vision of FDDI's management, the facility, the infrastructure & the services provided by FDDI for the growth of the industry.
