MoU on ‘Institutional Collaboration’ signed between FDDI & NIFT
 

On 13th November 2013, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on ‘Institutional Collaboration’ was signed between the Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI) and National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT).

 

“The MoU will help to encourage collaboration and exchange between the two institutions at a national and international level to benefit from each other’s strengths and provides scope for wider learning to the students of both the Institutes and impetus to the design promotion.”

With the objective of sharing of knowledge and resources between the institutes in the academic interest of students & faculty members and to promote the Design and Design education in the country & across globe, the MoU has been signed.

 

Mr. P. K. Gera, IAS, Director General, NIFT & Mr. Raajeev j Lakhara, Managing Director, FDDI signed the MoU which is based on the strength of two premier Institutes of the country. They also discussed in length to introduce synergy in the opportunities and advantages for both the Institutes.

On this occasion, Mr. Ajay Kumar, Secretary, and Mr. Amit Kumar Sharma, Executive Director from FDDI were present.

The delegation from NIFT consisting of Prof. Dr. Vandana Bhandari, Dean Academics, Ms. Pramila Sharan, IRS, Director Administration, Mr. Anand Kumar Kedia, IRS, Director Finance & Accounts, Ms. Shinju Mahajan, Chairperson, Department of Leather Design and Dr. Archana Gandhi, Unit Incharge- International and Domestic Linkages were also present on this occasion.

 
Exchange of MoU

 

FDDI was set up in 1986 under the aegis of Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. Over the years the institute has emerged as the premier Institute of the country providing international level of Training and services to the Footwear, Retail, Leather Products and the related Fashion and allied Industries. It has a distinct presence not only in higher education, but, also in the spheres of Industrial Consultancy, Research & Development and training of active industry professionals.

 

NIFT was set up in 1986 under the aegis of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. It has emerged as the premier Institute of Design, Management and Technology, developing professionals for taking up leadership positions in fashion business in the emerging global scenario.

 

According to Mr. P. K. Gera, IAS, Director General, NIFT, “The MoU will help to encourage collaboration and exchange between the two institutions at a national and international level to benefit from each other’s strengths and provides scope for wider learning to the students of both the Institutes and impetus to the design promotion.”

Elaborating the details, Mr. Raajeev j Lakhara, Managing Director, FDDI said, “The amalgamation of the design, innovation & technological experience of NIFT with FDDI would be a renaissance in the production of high end fashionable products for which there is ever-increasing demand, not only within the country, but, in the international market too."

The MoU opens-up new vistas for both the Institutes which is quite broad, making it possible to work together for promotion of quality education, research & development.

 

“Sharing of our experiences will be highly meaningful and mutually beneficial for both the Institutes and also paves way for greater cooperation meeting mutual needs. Several joint activities could be undertaken to result in synergy of investments and use of resources,” added Mr. Lakhara.

 

The delegation of NIFT visited the entire campus of the FDDI including School of Footwear Design & Production Management (SFDPM), School of Retail Management (SRM), School of Leather Goods and Accessories Design (SLGAD), School of Fashion Design (SFD) and School of Business Management (SBM), the International Testing Center (ITC) which has full-fledged Chemical and Physical Laboratories, the Pilot Plant, Product Development Center (PDC), library, classrooms etc. and were highly impressed with the facility, the infrastructure & the services provided by FDDI for the growth of the industry.

 

This strategic collaboration provides an excellent fit of strategy for developing innovative ideas & excellence in the area of collaborative programmes that are internationally and nationally recognized. Joint organization of national or international seminars, conferences and symposia’s; cooperation and exchange of research material, publications and journals for advancement of knowledge capital will also be done.
