Additional Secretary, DPIIT, Government of India visits FDDI, Noida campus

Mr. Rajeev Singh Thakur, IAS, Additional Secretary (AS), Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Government of India along with Mr. Binod Kumar, Deputy Secretary, DPIIT and Mr. Suman Kumar, Under Secretary, DPIIT visited Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI), Noida campus on 31st August, 2022.

On this occasion, Mr. Arun Kumar Sinha, IAS, Managing Director (MD), FDDI and the staff of the institute welcomed him.

He visited the International Testing Center (ITC) of FDDI having Physical & Chemical Laboratory and saw various testing-cum-quality control services being provided by it.

The ITC provides services such as testing for leather, plastics, rubbers, textiles, footwear, artificial limbs, sports goods & tests for harmful substances and is accredited by SATRA, UK, DAkkS, Germany & Bureau of Indian Standards.

During his three hour stay, AS, DPIIT visited the campus of the institute including the state-of-art facilities and infrastructure as established at School of Footwear Design & Production, School of Leather Goods & Accessories Design, School of Fashion Design and School of Retail and Fashion Merchandise.

AS, DPIIT was briefed about the importance of hand tools, shoe last and the state-of-the-art-equipments and a demonstration was given in the Pilot Plant i.e., manufacturing workshops of footwear.

He saw the newly setup ‘Digital Classroom’ facility that enable students of various campuses across the country to enhance the knowledge & skills and provides an opportunity to streamline the academic structure at all other eleven campuses of FDDI.

He also visited Information Technology Services Center (ITSC) and saw the IT facilities & services provided to the staff and students of FDDI. ITSC is having a computer lab of 180+ nodes equipped with latest design software, Shoemaster software, Retail ERP software & normal browsing lab catering to all schools.

The students of FDDI displayed their works in the form of presentations. They had put up stalls where a display of footwear, designs, sketches etc. was made.

The AS, DPIIT interacted with the members of the faculty & staff members and gave valuable suggestions for the improvement of standards of teaching, research and collaboration programmes of the institute across all the campuses.
