Additional Secretary, DPIIT, Government of India visits FDDI, Chandigarh (Banur) campus

On 23rd September 2022, Mr. Rajeev Singh Thakur, IAS, Additional Secretary (AS), Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Government of India visited Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI), Chandigarh (Banur) campus.

On this occasion, the Centre In-charge, FDDI and the staff of the institute welcomed him.

During his visit, he inspected technical workshops equipped with modern state-of-art machineries, conference halls, seminar halls, auditorium, Information Technology Services Center (ITSC), Design Studio, CAD-CAM lab, Digital Classroom boys hostel etc.

He was briefed about the importance of hand tools, shoe last and the state-of-the-art-equipments and a demonstration was given in the Pilot Plant constituting of Cutting, Closing, Component, Lasting & Finishing Workshops for Footwear Design & Production students.

He saw the newly setup ‘Digital Classroom’ facility that enable students of various campuses across the country to enhance the knowledge & skills and provides an opportunity to streamline the academic structure at all other eleven campuses of FDDI.

The students of FDDI displayed their works in the form of presentations. They had put up stalls where a display of footwear, designs, sketches etc. was made.

He interacted with the members of the faculty & staff members and gave valuable suggestions for the improvement of standards of teaching, research and collaboration programmes of the institute across all the campuses.

He emphasized to focus on a five/ten year vision of institution and an action plan to achieve it. He also suggested to include Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the syllabus of FDDI which has become a vital necessity of the contemporary and future society and it may prove to be a game changer for placement linked educational programs.

He suggested forging linkages with other educational institutions for joint research and adopting best practices in the area of footwear/leather/fashion. He also emphasized for increasing industrial and educational consultancy so that the brand building of FDDI is done.

To enrich the young mind with sportsman spirit, leadership, interpersonal relationship etc., he also suggested to form various clubs and societies amongst the student, so that their hidden talents are brought out brilliantly.
