All Center Meet & Industrial visit for SLGAD at FDDI, Kolkata


To enhance team collaboration, foster a positive work environment and to familiarize the faculty of the School of Leather Goods and Accessories Design (LGAD) with the latest technological advancement taking place in the industry, an all Center Meet & industrial visit was organized at FDDI, Kolkata.

During the meet, one-on-one detailed meetings was conducted with faculty members from all centers of FDDI to address emerging bottleneck issues hampering the workflow.

During the same, Mr. Ajeet, a 2022 LGAD alumnus who has successfully founded startup named Alean Gallery, a creative design studio specializing in CAD modeling, social media strategies, and e-commerce solutions specializing in branding and digital advancements on a large scale provided valuable insights on software and graphic syllabus updates.

On 16th December 2024, the faculty and students visited ASG Leather Pvt. Ltd., which specializes in leather bag manufacturing using industry engineering processes. The company is one of India's fastest-growing leather goods export houses, recognized by the Government of India. Their domestic brand, Kompanero, is well-known for its craftsmanship.

On 17th December 2024, the faculty and students visited D2 International which is a prestigious export house specializing in the manufacture and export of high-fashion leather bags and accessories for both men and women. The company boasts state-of-the-art infrastructure and a modernized manufacturing process, with multiple checkpoints from raw materials to finished goods to ensure superior quality.

On 19th December 2024, the faculties and students had an enriching visit to SEPA-SKICORP, a leading provider of cutting-edge machinery and accessories tailored for the leather goods and accessories industry. Located in Kolkata, the company specializes in innovative solutions that enhance efficiency, precision, and productivity in manufacturing processes.

A visit was made at the ICAR-National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering and Technology (NINFET), formerly known as the National Institute of Research on Jute and Allied Fibre Technology (NIRJAFT), which is a prestigious research institute under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Government of India. It is dedicated to advancing research and development in natural fibers such as jute, promoting their diversified use, and fostering industrial growth in the sector.

The faculties also had a meeting with SKI Group MD, Mr. Amit Bajoria during which current trends and future prospects of the leather industry were discussed and the need of introduction to the latest systems, innovative machines, and advanced materials used in manufacturing, particularly for bag production were deliberated.

During the industrial visit, company officials at the respective company conducted presentations showcasing the latest state-of-the-art machinery and their functionalities. Students gained valuable insights into how these technologies streamline the production process, improve efficiency, and enhance product quality.
