Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh attends Convocation ceremony of FDDI, Banur campus


The Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh, Mr. Gulab Chand Kataria attended the Convocation ceremony of FDDI, Banur campus as the Chief Guest.

In a grand event which was held on 10th January 2025 at the Institute’s premise, 128 students from the 2023 and 2024 batches across the Department of Retail & Fashion Merchandise, Department of Footwear Technology, Department of Fashion Design, and Department of Leather Lifestyle & Product Designing were conferred with Degrees.

On this occasion, Directors, Principals, Heads of Departments of various educational institutions, graduating students and the staff & students of the institute were present.

On behalf of FDDI, Colonel Pankaj Kumar Sinha, Secretary-FDDI, welcomed the ‘Chief Guest’ and all the delegates.

The ceremony began with the playing of the National Anthem, followed by the lamp-lighting ceremony led by the Hon’ble Governor, accompanied by Secretary-FDDI and ED – FDDI, Banur.

Congratulating the awardees and medal winners, Colonel Pankaj Kumar Sinha, Secretary-FDDI in his ‘Welcome Address’ said, ‘Convocation ceremony holds a special place in the hearts of students, teachers and faculty as it marks the culmination of years of their hard work.” He highlighted the contribution of the footwear industry to the country's economy. He said that this industry has contributed significantly in employment generation and export earnings. Referring to ‘Make in India’ Programme, he said that the country's leadership has supported such initiatives which are strengthening the economy.

The Hon’ble Governor conferred Degrees and prizes to the top-performing students in recognition of their academic excellence. He congratulated all the students and wished them a bright future.

Delivering the ‘Keynote Address’, the Hon’ble Governor said, “By combining education with skills, human resources are being created as per the requirements of the country. This reduces unemployment and create opportunities for self-employment.”

Referring to the goal of developed India, the Hon’ble Governor said that this goal can be achieved only when every citizen of the country makes efforts. He said that it depends on the hard work and diligence of every citizen. He appealed to the students to keep making efforts and bring glory to the institute. He encouraged students to focus on professional growth, commitment to goals, and societal contributions and to move forward wisely in the second phase of life.

The students who performed well in their academics were awarded with gold and silver medals. Akanksha Gupta and Rishita Ladiwal of the 2023 batch and Divpriya and Satuti Pant of the 2024 batch were awarded gold medals in the postgraduate and undergraduate categories respectively. Similarly, Ekjot Kaur of the 2023 batch of the Department of Footwear Technology, Srishti Mittal of the Leather and Lifestyle Product Design Department and Ojal Garg of the 2024 batch of the Department of Footwear Technology were awarded silver medals.

Delivering the ‘Vote of Thanks’, Ms. Pragya Singh, IRS, ED, FDDI- Banur campus expressed her gratitude to all the participants and contributors for making the event a grand success. She lauded the sincere efforts made by the students during their journey with FDDI-Banur campus and called upon them to utilize their full potential. She noted that FDDI graduates are employed by leading multinational and national companies with competitive packages. She called upon the graduating students to revisit campus and ignite the memories associated with the institute.

The convocation marked a momentous occasion for the graduating students, their families, and the institute, highlighting FDDI’s commitment to fostering industry-ready professionals.
