The paper titled, ‘Optimization Study Analysis of Vegetable Tanning Finishing Techniques in Shoes: Introduction of Colour Wheel Methodology’ bearing ISSN: 1119-5096, Vol. 28 No.1S, published on 16th January 2025.

This research paper describes vegetable tanning, an age-old leather processing method that relies on plant-derived tannins, has garnered renewed attention as a sustainable alternative in the modern fashion industry, especially in footwear manufacturing. Known for its environmentally friendly and biodegradable properties, vegetable tanning has faced challenges in achieving consistent color variety, durability, and surface quality—key factors for commercial adoption.
The paper elucidates application of the colour wheel methodology, enhanced finishing techniques, improved colour fastness and durability and sustainability and commercial viability impacting the industry.
This research underscores the potential of integrating traditional craftsmanship with scientific tools to address the challenges of modern footwear manufacturing. By enhancing color variability, durability, and aesthetic appeal, the study positions vegetable-tanned leather as a commercially viable and sustainable material for the fashion industry.
