Being the apex institute for footwear, FDDI is continuously engaged in R&D work so that the innovation and improvement is for the betterment of mankind and the environment.
In this regard, the School of Footwear Design and Production (FDP) of FDDI, Jodhpur Campus is now making significant contribution with a unique and innovative experiment pertaining to environmental protection.
Sharing the details, Mr. Anil Kumar, AFHQCS, Executive Director (ED), FDDI, Jodhpur Campus said, “FDDI Jodhpur supported ‘Sole Craft’, a Jodhpur based Start-up company in the footwear sector run by Mr. Atul Mehta and his wife Mrs. Divya Mehta, through its design and technology to use about 60% of the material used in the footwear manufacturing from waste materials, which included plastic bottles, plastic bags and other single-use plastics.”
FDDI Jodhpur enhanced its commitment to environmental protection by incorporating plastic waste into the manufacturing of footwear by inspiring this company, under which, after extensive R&D, this company is using recycled plastic for most of its footwear, so that the environmental damage caused by plastic can be reduced and protected.
In this process, recycled plastic is used to make the upper part of the shoe, while rubber tyres are recycled to make the sole, which maintains the durability of the sole. Along with this, bamboo charcoal has been used to make the insoles, which absorb sweat and remove bad odour from the shoes.
“The objective of environmental protection is being met with this innovation and this will be promoted in the footwear sector in the future as well and efforts will be made to maximize the use of waste plastic materials in place of leather and other materials used in the footwear manufacturing,” added Mr. Kumar.
‘Sole Craft’ is manufacturing footwear on a large scale and is doing its business through online medium and is also working for environmental protection.
