Expert Talk on ‘Social Compliance in the Leather Industry’ held at FDDI, Noida campus

Expert Talk on ‘Social Compliance in the Leather Industry’ was held at FDDI, Noida campus on 5th May, 2023.

It was attended by the students, faculty members, and industry professionals of Noida and also by the students, faculty members of FDDI, Hyderabad campus who were connected virtually from the virtual classroom facility which was organized by the School of Leather Goods & Accessories Design (LGAD).

Mr. Sumiet Bhatnagar, the founder and CEO of Trading Asia, a consulting firm that specializes in social compliance and sustainability in the manufacturing industry was the expert who is having over 25 years of experience in this field and has worked with various organizations in the leather industry.

Mr. Bhatnagar delivered an informative presentation on the significance of social compliances in the leather industry and explained about the various issues concerning workers' rights, safety, and environmental concerns and elucidated how social compliances can help to address them.

He also highlighted the various international standards and regulations that apply to the leather industry, such as SA-8000, Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI), Initiative for Compliance and Sustainability (ICS). He expounded on how these standards can be effectively used to ensure that leather manufacturers comply with the necessary social and environmental regulations.
