Technical seminar on ‘ICad3D+RED21 CAD/CAM Technologies for Footwear Designing’ held at FDDI, Chennai campus
On 12th September 2023, a seminar on topic ‘ICad3D+RED21 CAD/CAM Technologies for Footwear Designing’ was organized at FDDI, Chennai campus.
It was organized by the School of Footwear Design & Production (FDP) with the objective to equip the students with the technical knowledge on current research lines range from last customization to advanced tools for design and manufacture, such as 3D-2D connected design, virtual and augmented reality, and direct connection to additive manufacturing.
Mr. S. Baskar, Manager, Sales & Technical & Mr. Janarthan.R- Technical Engineer from CMI Machines Pvt. Ltd., were the key resource persons of the seminar. They briefed about the last and footwear customization, 3D printing of footwear lasts for footwear prototyping, flattening of complex surfaces following technical considerations of footwear, Design of customized insoles is currently being investigated, with the aim of adapting them to the morphology of the patient’s foot and to treatments prescribed by podiatrists, Footwear models are designed upon digital lasts, resulting in a rigid appearance.
The emergence of new CAD/CAM technologies for digital design of every element involved in footwear, starting from the last (base element on which the rest are conformed), followed by the construction of soles, heels, wedges, insoles, etc. and in the end the whole shoes, is revolutionizing footwear design and manufacture.
More than 75 participants including students from all the batches of B.Des FDP & M.Des-FDP staff members, Short term students attended this informative session.
