Design Patent granted for ‘Multi Utility Tray, jointly to Faculty of FDDI, Hyderabad Campus and others 


Dr. Rambabu Muppidi, Design Faculty of FDDI School of Leather Goods & Accessories Design (LGAD) of FDDI, Hyderabad Campus and two other persons jointly submitted their creative and innovative design Small wooden accessories goods title ‘Multi Utility Tray, to Indian Patent Office, Intellectual Property Building, and Kolkata, India for design protection. 

This creative and innovative design bears Design Number: 428915-001, CBR Number: 215761, Class: 07 - 99, The Patent Office Journal No. 25/2025 dt.19/06/2025, Volume No.61325, page number 147. With the support of Mr. Subhajit Saha, Head of Legal & IPR, Founder Resolute 4IP, the application was submitted on 21st January, 2025 and the registration was officially granted on 28th April, 2025.

Besides Dr. Rambabu Muppidi, Mr. K. Elayaraja, Senior Faculty, School of Footwear Design and Production (FDP) and Mrs. Vanaja Kalapala, Librarian, Elate International School, Manikonda have made significant contributions to the research study. 

The creative concept originated during field visits to Udayagiri in Nellore, a region renowned for its traditional wooden cutlery. Dr. Muppidi and his team observed a rich assortment of handcrafted utility items—such as wooden trays, spoons, and storage containers—primarily made by local artisans for everyday household use.

Motivated to bridge traditional craftsmanship with modern design thinking, the team conceptualized the Multi-Utility Tray with the aim of supporting the local artisan community and promoting the ethos of design for society.
