Dr. Rambabu Muppidi Secures Two Indian Design Patents, Advancing Design Innovation


Dr. Rambabu Muppidi, Senior Faculty, Fashion Design Department, FDDI Chennai, has secured two additional Indian Design Patents, further strengthening his contributions to industrial design, sustainable innovation and intellectual property.

The first registered design, “Visiting Card Holder (Table Accessory)” (Design Application No. 500197-001, Class 03-01), was granted on 30 July 2026. Developed in collaboration with M. Mattagunja Anirudh, 4th Year Student, LGAD, FDDI Hyderabad, and Mrs. Vanaja Kalapala, the innovative tabletop accessory features a movable wheel mechanism for easy repositioning and offers multifunctional storage for small office essentials.

The second design, “Handcrafted Bamboo Chair” (Design Application No. 461913-001, Class 06-01), represents a sustainable furniture concept combining traditional bamboo craftsmanship with contemporary design. Co-authored with Dr. Ravindra Babu Veguri, GITAM University, the design promotes renewable materials, eco-friendly furniture development and preservation of traditional craftsmanship.

With these latest grants, Dr. Muppidi’s design portfolio continues to span sustainable materials, handicrafts, furniture, educational products and lifestyle accessories, reflecting his commitment to integrating traditional craftsmanship with modern design thinking. The achievements also highlight FDDI’s institutional ecosystem in fostering faculty innovation, student participation, research and intellectual property creation.
