Profile & Biography
Ms. Varsha M Samuel is a Faculty member at the School of Fashion Design, FDDI Jodhpur, bringing 18 years of professional experience that balances seven years in merchandising and product development with eleven years in academia. Her academic profile is uniquely multidisciplinary, holding an MA in Sociology (Social Psychology & Anthropology), a PGD in Fashion Design & Merchandising, and a certification in UX Design. This diverse background fuels her expertise in Design Thinking, UX methods, and the Fashion Design Process. A committed researcher and social advocate, she has published work on sensory marketing, inclusivity, and sustainability, while leading projects ranging from environmental restoration to artisan upliftment in association with EPCH. Her excellence has earned her high-profile recognitions, including the Nari-Shakti Samman 2024 and the title of Cultural Partner with the Anadya Foundation. Furthermore, she maintains lifetime memberships with the Central Cottage Industries Corporation of India Ltd. and CEGR, reflecting her lifelong dedication to women's empowerment and the advancement of traditional Indian crafts.
She has co-authored the book FASHION DESIGN PROCESS & MARKET SURVEY and played a pivotal role in research and development of course materials under Project Saraswati at FDDI. Ms. Samuel has actively participated in and contributed to various industrial and academic conferences, workshops, and webinars, highlighting her engagement with contemporary themes in fashion and design.
